Статья посвящена анализу истоков и особенностей формирования «черной легенды» о Валентине Висконти, супруге герцога Людовика Орлеанского и невестке Карла VI. Автор в деталях исследует все источники рубежа XIV–XV вв., пересказывавшие слухи о том, что герцогиня являлась ведьмой, которая навела порчу на французского короля, и оспаривает точку зрения, бытующую в историографии, согласно которой создателем этой «черной легенды» был один человек – геннегаузский хронист Жан Фруассар. По мнению автора статьи, слухи о Валентине Висконти возникли значительно раньше, чем Фруассар взялся за составление своих «Хроник», они носили изначально устный характер и в первую очередь были связаны с политической пропагандой герцогов Бургундских, пытавшихся получить всю полноту власти во Французском королевстве. Сплетни о Валентине Висконти как о ведьме и распутнице с самого начала носили характер политический и имели отношение не к «объективной» оценке текущих событий, а потому вести речь о каком-то одном авторе «черной легенды» о герцогине Орлеанской – даже если на эту роль претендовал Жан Фруассар, один из самых читаемых хронистов рубежа XIV–XV вв., – не представляется возможным.

The article deals with the analysis of the origins and features of the formation of the “black legend” about Valentina Visconti, the wife of Duke Louis of Orleans and the sister-in-law of Charles VI. The author studies in detail all the sources of the turn of the 14th–15th centuries, which retold rumors that the Duchess was a witch who brought a spell on the French king, and disputes the point of view prevailing in historiography, according to which the creator of that “black legend” was one and the only person – the Hennegau chronicler Jean Froissart. According to the author of the article, rumors about Valentina Visconti arose much earlier than Froissart took up the compilation of his “Chronicles”, they were initially oral in nature and were primarily associated with the political propaganda of the Dukes of Burgundy, who were trying to gain full power in the French Kingdom.
