<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The article discusses the connotative meanings of the gender stereotype “a real man” and the pragmatic peculiarities of its usage. The work reflects the definition issue of “gender,” “stereotype”, and “gender stereotypes”. The key gender and stereotype points in discourse are considered in linguistic literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. The article presents an analysis of examples for the use of the real man stereotype in monolog and dialogic speech, collected in the National Corpus of Russian Language Formula. The examples of monolog speech reveal the stereotypical representation of native speakers of the Russian language about what qualities an ideal man, a “male standard” possesses. Research on dialogic speech contexts revealed that the gender stereotype “a real man” is used as an argument for praise, reproach, or condemnation.</p><p>The analysis of dialogic examples revealed that the gender factor in communication is not always determinant, gender differences are manifested in the strategies of expressing approval or disapproval of men’s qualities.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>гендер</kwd><kwd>гендерные стереотипы</kwd><kwd>настоящий мужчина</kwd><kwd>эталонные качества</kwd><kwd>оценка</kwd><kwd>мужской эталон</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>gender</kwd><kwd>gender stereotypes</kwd><kwd>a real man</kwd><kwd>the benchmark qualities</kwd><kwd>assessment</kwd><kwd>the male standard</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Аносов 2013 – Аносов Е.А.
