Abstract

Journalistic style over the past fifty years has undergone a rapid and complex path of development, closely related to the revolutionary changes in media that conditioned the extra-linguistic basis of style. The formation of publicist style took place in the sixties of the twentieth century within the framework of functional stylistics. At that time a terminological system was created, the main sub-styles were identified and the most important genres of publication style were described. Since the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, the theory of publicist style began to transform under the influence of discursive, digital and multimedia turns in linguistics. New genres and sub-styles have emerged and terminology has been updated. Current relevant issues are the scientific discussions on creation of integrative media-styleism, which includes the achievements of mediaology, gender studies, discursology and other fields of knowledge.
