Forming an image of the “Stranger”. The sociocultural confrontation between repatriates and local residents in Kazakhstan

Abstract

The article considers reasons why the “Stranger” image is being formed in regard to home comers returning to Kazakhstan from Mongolia and China. Based on data collected during her fieldwork, the author aims to show that traditional beliefs and ritual cycles play an important part in the sociocultural confrontation along with the financial, social,cultural, and religious factors.
