Abstract

The article deals with the issue of correlation of the individual creative manner of Patriarch Nikon and literary tradition of the Russian Middle Ages. The main object of philological analysis are Nikon’s letters to contemporaries and his appeals to the Tsar on the personal and topical issues. The author comes to the conclusion that the famous innovator and reformer of the church as a writer and publicist corresponded to the conservative etiquette of the ancient Russian book culture.
