The journal was founded in 1996 (the issue was renewed in 2006) and for the years of its existence has become well-known in the scientific society. The journal has been publishing articles by leading Russian (Galina I. Zvereva, Leonid E. Kogan, Gregory G. Kosach, Olga M. Medushevskaya, Sergey.Yu. Neklyudov, Alexander D. Stepansky, Valery I. Tyupa, etc.) and foreign (D. Kemper and others) researchers, as well as graduate students, doctoral students and applicants; reports on the major scientific conferences; reviews of scientific monographs.

The title and content of the headings of the journal corresponds to the branches of science in the nomenclature of scientific specialties, for which academic degrees are awarded, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia of February 25, 2009 No. 59 (as amended by the Orders of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation of August 11, 2009 No. 294, dated November 16, 2009 № 603, from January 10, 2012 № 5, from February 20, 2015 № 114): 07.00.00 - Historical Sciences, 10.00.00 - Philological Sciences, 24.00.00 – Cultural Studies.
