Literature “not for ladies” and journal polemics of the 1860s

Abstract

The article studies a deleted fragment from P.D. Boborykin’s memoirs “Over Half a Century. My Memoirs”, which contains an obscene acrostic, which, according to the publicist, was the epigraph to M.A. Antonovich’s article “Literary trifles. Swifts in a trap (a true incident)”. It is concluded that such a text is originally of the folklore origin, but later reworked by professional writers. The search for the source of the acrostic has provided additional material for the study of literature and journalism “not for ladies” and led to the conclusion on Boborykin’s attention to the literature of the kind.
