HISTORY OF PUBLICISM. RHETORIC

14-22 57
Abstract

The article analyzes the ideological component of A. Pushkin’s poem “Ruslan and Lyudmila”. It refers to the ethnogenetic discourse, which was relevant in Russian society of the 17th – 18th centuries. One of the channels for transmission of ethnogenetic discourse became the genre of the “Russian magic novel” (M. Chulkov etc.), with which the poem “Ruslan and Lyudmila” is associated. Pushkin borrowed from it samples of the protagonist’s name and turned “Yeruslan”/“Roksolan” into “Ruslan”. However, in Pushkin’s poem, the ethnogenetic discourse is subordinated not to a ideological, but to a purely artistic setting.

Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of censorship interventions in the editions of the novel “Zolotoi telenok” by I.A. Ilf and E.P. Petrov. It reveals the specifics of the censors’ activities, correlated with specific political attitudes relevant to the period of preparation for each publication. The motivation of those who censored the novel text and the specific results of their activities are analyzed. It is found that the original journalistic component in the manuscript prepared by the authors themselves was significantly reduced under censorship control.

Abstract

The article describes the history of the most famous philosophical fragment of V. Grossman’s novel “Life and Fate” – Ikonnikov’s treatise about the good and human kindness. Based on archival materials, the author concludes that Ikonnikov’s essay was initially to have been part of the novel “For The Just Cause”, translated into English as “Stalingrad”, but was left out during the editorial assessment in the “Novy Mir” journal. Later, however, the piece was included in the continuation of “For The Just Cause” – the novel “Life and Fate”. Thereat, the system of publicistic ideas was significantly changed.

Abstract

The article deals with the perception of the Decembrists in the USSR in 1975, the year of the 150th anniversary of the Decembrists’ revolt. It notes that fifty years before that the Decembrists were hardly mentioned, and considers the gradual return of the Decembrists to historical science and into public consciousness. The author also focuses on the bifurcation of the traditional “myth” about the three stages of the revolutionary movement in Russia, the first of which, according to V.I. Lenin, was the Decembrists’ revolt: on the one hand, dissidents associated themselves with the Decembrists; on the other hand, officials of the Brezhnev’s era also tried to claim their kinship with the Decembrists. It is concluded that the 150th anniversary of the Decembrist revolt was accompanied by a sudden upsurge in activity – and, unlike the centenary of the uprising, the anniversary in 1975 was supervised by the USSR Ministry of Culture. It is quite likely that the interest in the 150th anniversary of the revolt on the part of not only society but also the state is connected with its ideological opposition to dissidents.

Abstract

The article is about the scientific and pedagogical school “Media publicism in historical-political and cultural and media speech context” established at the RSUH Faculty of Journalism. It analyzes the stages of the school’s formation, the main principles that guide its participants in their scientific and pedagogical practices, and describes the results of the school participants’ activities. It is argued that the school’s work is based on the conviction of its participants that publicism is not equal to journalism; the publicistic component can be present in journalistic texts, in scientific and artistic texts as well.

Abstract

This article presents a meta-analysis of the study in the definitions of the concepts “blog” and “blogger” in Russian interpretations. The goal is to use small examples of basic tasks for a researcher (to define concepts, identify persons and chronology, etc.) to show threats and solutions in working with digital network sources. Challenges for a modern researcher are identified, including against the backdrop of the rapid development of AI technologies and generative neural networks. In particular, it gives examples of discrepancies in definitions and interpretations, replication of unreliable information in public and scientific texts. The principles for overcoming difficulties are outlined and some provisions for working with sources are formulated, which can be attributed to the development of the concept of “Source Studies 2.0”.

Abstract

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in mass media is becoming more and more commonplace and requires deep thinking. Due to the lack of clear legal regulation and ethical standards, the audience is not protected from the risks of deception, misleading and manipulation. The article deals with the study of the currently applied legal and ethical standards of the neural networks use in mass media, as well as to the analysis of those aspects that still need to be regulated. The scientific methods used are induction, description, generalization, and content analysis. As part of comprehending the necessary ethical standards, a survey of journalism students at the RSUH faculty of journalism was conducted.

Abstract

Visual communication is becoming not only a relevant subject of research by representatives of the humanities, but also a promising way to convey information to the mass audience due to such properties as speed of perception, universality (the ability to overcome language barriers), and effectiveness of impact. In such technologically developed countries as China, visual communication on television no longer supplements verbal information, but is a full-fledged way of informing and ideological influence. The article substantiates the need for a closer study of that area within the framework of theoretical studies of journalism, and describes the specific features of visual communication on Chinese television.

Abstract

The digital revolution, the information age, digitalization and the subsequent active development of technologies made significant changes in the activities of a journalist and opened up new opportunities, new formats. Traditional media and their way of interacting with the audience were transformed. In this regard, podcasts became a new format for public communication with the audience and a new channel for spreading information about significant public issues in the context of the new media development. Moreover mass media use podcasts not only as a platform for promotion and communication with the audience, but also as a full-fledged tool that has become part of the technological base of journalistic creative work. Due to the continued growth in the popularity of podcasts, and criminal-themed podcasts, their careful study as media is an urgent topic for research.

Abstract

The paper is focused on some key features of Bumbarash (1972), TV movie by N. Rasheev and A. Narodnitsky, to form it’s perception by the Russian intelligentsia of the late Soviet epoch. The movie was based on some short stories by A. Gaidar (1904–1941) demonstrated the mechanics of dehumanization to be inherited by any civil war. The very special narrative of “Bumbarash” which integrates elements of various genres is rather untypical for the mainstream Soviet representation of the Russian Revolution. That has formed the unique perception of the movie by Russian intellectuals.

Abstract

The article studies a deleted fragment from P.D. Boborykin’s memoirs “Over Half a Century. My Memoirs”, which contains an obscene acrostic, which, according to the publicist, was the epigraph to M.A. Antonovich’s article “Literary trifles. Swifts in a trap (a true incident)”. It is concluded that such a text is originally of the folklore origin, but later reworked by professional writers. The search for the source of the acrostic has provided additional material for the study of literature and journalism “not for ladies” and led to the conclusion on Boborykin’s attention to the literature of the kind.

Abstract

The historically shaped dialogue between Armenian and Russian cultures has embraced the richness of content and diversity of forms of Armenian-Russian literary connections. Those ties particularly developed in the 20th century, fostering multiple interactions within the context of a large state uniting different peoples. The journal “Literary Armenia”, founded in 1958, contributed to the expansion and strengthening of literary interaction, largely updating the picture of “ties”, bringing to light the faces and figures that until times had remained in the shadows. The journal became involved, in particular, in the process of gradually introducing readers to the creative heritage of Russian literary classics of the 20th century, which had for some time been consigned to oblivion. During the 1960s, relying on previously established facts of real connections, a number of publications were carried out, introducing the reader to the texts of Bely, Mandelstam, Tsvetaeva, Voloshin and others. Access to the materials of the personal archive of the literary scholar, critic, translator N. Gonchar, who at that time worked in the editorial office of the journal, as well as access to the editorial archive allows the article to highlight the grounds, principles and methods of implementing those series of publications by the journal. Special attention is given to the publication from the legacy of I. Bunin, the coverage of which is given using little-known and unknown material.
