Древнегреческая география как феномен культуры: некоторые замечания

Аннотация
Представители древнегреческой географической науки создали два основных вида текстов, которые можно характеризовать, соответственно, как теоретико-географические и описательные (дескриптивные). Крупнейшим автором первых был знаменитый ученый Эратосфен. Но произведения такого рода почти не содержат данных по истории и поэтому редко используются историками-антиковедами в качестве источника. Автора в рамках статьи интересуют прежде всего памятники, относящиеся к двум неотрывным друг от друга жанрам: периегезе и периплу. В периегезах уделяется большее внимание событиям прошлого, поскольку в них при описании городов и местностей постоянно идет речь о памятниках истории и культуры; в периплах же интерес к прошлому проявляется в существенно меньшей степени, поскольку писались они в первую очередь для мореходов. В современной литературе периегезы иногда называют «античными путеводителями», а периплы – «античными лоциями». Крупнейшим греческим периегетом был Павсаний. Но его труд детально изучен, и поэтому в статье в основном идет речь о гораздо менее известных авторах (хронологически относящихся к эпохам от эллинистической до позднеримской), таких как Гераклид Критик, Псевдо-Скимн, Дионисий Византийский, Гесихий Иллюстрий.
